I’ve just come home from the outstanding NC State shoot at Hunters Pointe where Chuck Frazier perpetrated on us some of his best, most well thought out target presentations. Standing in the box, I distinctly remember telling myself not to shoot that target right there. Did I remember to follow those instructions? Actually, to tell you the truth, well, I just forgot. It looked so good right there I couldn’t help myself. See, here’s what happened. After stomping the first bird, I moved the gun to intercept the second bird. And there it was, right on schedule. So I mosey up to it with my “never-fail” move and watched myself shoot right over the top of it! Chuck ambushed me. Twice! X0X0. It’s enough to make a person feel daffy. I did adjust the last 2 pairs, XXXX. Couldn’t get those lost birds back though.

And that’s what I want to take a look at, minimizing our misses.

In my opinion, sporting clays competition has become a precision sport. Never before have so many demands been placed on the competitor’s shoulders to guide the gun properly. Mistakes in the swing are rarely forgiven by today’s more creative and deceptive match presentations. While ours is not a game of perfect, scores are climbing. That’s why knowing where we missed and why is so critical. As scores continue to climb, there is less and less margin for missing, putting the emphasis squarely on better strategies and error free swing execution. Miss management.

Top shooters have good form. While their shooting styles may differ, the style each one uses is consistent, making it dependable, at the target and on the score sheet. But there’s more going on there than meets the eye.

Let’s start with a target presentation you like, a favorite of yours. Maybe it’s a left to right crossing target, medium speed at about 25 yards. This is a target that you rarely miss. Confidence on this bird is very high as you walk into the shooting box. Why? Because you know this shot. From the set up through the break you know every aspect of this shot cold. Swing feel and sight pictures are very familiar to you. I’m not inferring you can take the target for granted. I am saying you feel very secure, putting a lot of trust in your move on this bird. You know how to break it and it will break. So it’s safe to say you have this shot, any time, anywhere.

Now stand beside me at Hunters Pointe on Sunday at the state shoot, 15 yards to the left and under the 60 foot tower. Both traps are on the top. True pairs, the birds leave from behind us, on our right, overhead and away. The first thing we notice is the line on each bird is somewhat awkward, so putting the gun on the line will be touchy. To compound matters, the targets are fast, meaning time is limited and we’ll have to make good use of the time we have. The margin for swing errors is small indeed and swing mistakes, careless or otherwise, won’t be forgiven here. Like so many of Chuck’s well thought out presentations, precision will be at a premium……

***
This Sporting Clays Article was previously published in Sporting Clays Magazine by Dan Schindler in January 2006.

The Paragon School of Sporting is now making available the remainder of this article as well as numerous others, available for download on The Paragon School of Sporting Website.

Sporting clays continues to be an elegant sport born of long tradition, fulfilling our wingshooting passion to experience the wing and shot. Feather and clay, inescapably tied, grants us so many learning opportunities to hone our skills, a path of personal growth that affords us a refreshing, unbiased look at ourselves. Time and again, my students have learned how entirely more capable they are than once thought. The American sporting clays shooter can honestly and proudly say, in a very short period, he has indeed advanced to take his rightful place among the best in the world. And, let’s not forget, no one is having more fun out here than you and I are.

The events, times, places and persons in my articles are all true. While I changed a name here and there, 100% of the information came from my experiences with you. Each tournament, each lesson, each experience with you generated the material for my work. I am grateful.

We hope you enjoyed the first part of the article and will visit us online to browse the numerous collection that is available. Until then, happy Sporting!

Accredited online college degree education is growing fast with many schools offering online degrees. Many colleges now offer online courses and methods of studying that are easier and more enjoyable for the student yet do a great job at education.

Online educational degrees help students and working professionals in their education and career advancement. Online degree programs prove to be helpful in such situations where you need to balance between obligations towards your family, work and career.

Accredited college degree courses offer superior degree education options all available over the Internet. Accredited college degree education online is usually offered in two options. These are people from the USA and others.

The importance of obtaining a college degree is easy to compute as the earning gap between those with college degrees and those without continues to grow. Accredited college degree education online offers more people worldwide the opportunity to gain a college education from their own homes or businesses.

It is highly important to study and to obtain your college degree from an accredited institution no matter if you study online or on a college campus. Not only will your job offers be dependent upon your college being accredited but students who wish to apply for college financing can only do so if their college is properly accredited by the proper educational boards. The actual costs of your education will vary based on the university your choose to attend, credits you are transferring in, and the way you choose to finance your education. You should consult with the college that you plan to attend to get a good estimate of the cost of your college education.

The process of getting ready to send a son/daughter to college can present many confusing choices. This is especially true if you are sending your first child to college. There are over 3000 colleges to choose from. Each college has its own unique offering of courses and activities. In addition to all of the mailings that are sent to home there are hundreds of college websites that offer information. Starting your college search in the 9th or 10th grade gives your student an opportunity to tour different types of colleges.

Each high school student should talk to college students and faculty to get a better picture of the level of community on their campus. Some students and parents look at the name of a college to determine where they will pursue an undergraduate degree. A student can go after the big name but maybe the college does not really have the major that they want. Some colleges are located in an urban city while others are located in a suburban or rural city. Not only must you look at the size of the college you should also look at how far it is from home.

Many parents and students get consumed with discussions about the cost of college. The price of college can range from ,000 – ,000 for public or private college education. Colleges are trying to move into the 21st century in terms of technological resources for students who are enrolled. For example, maintaining a wireless internet campus requires staff. The staff is hired to manage the college’s hardware and software. Students can use their laptops to complete class assignments and to send e-mails to their professors. Even if you have a family income over 0,000 you should complete the federal financial aid form. There are certain academic scholarships and student loans that require the completion of the federal aid form.

Choosing a college should be a students own decision. The college that their friend selects may not be for them. They are making an investment in themselves that could affect their career options. It is best to choose a college that fits their personal and professional goals. Your student can take a career test at their high school to get a clearer picture of a career that may interest them. These career tests are easy to complete and they provide a lot of useful information. Your son/daughter can sit down with their high school counselor and talk about a variety of careers. They should research the career and the types of jobs that completing a certain college degree will offer.

I If you are sending the first person in your family to college recognize that you are not alone. Attend a college night at your son/daughter’s high school or attend a college fair in your city. You will get to meet admissions officers who are more than happy to answer your questions. Make the senior year a time of joy rather than anguish. Meet with your college counselor early during the school year and you will develop an effective college search plan. Despite the initial challenges you will help your student to choose their college dream. Dr. Stephen Jones is author of the “Seven Secrets of How to Study.

In an era where the mediums of communication are constantly changing, where does a small business owner go in order to maximize their advertising expenditures and turn it into revenue?

There are traditional mediums such as television, radio, newspaper, and the yellow pages. There is an emerging medium that many of you may have heard of, it is called the internet! The internet is a medium that is in fact less time consuming and less costly than most traditional methods.

TV Advertise

This type of business enterprise may not be terribly costly, but it may eat up a lot of time. Before going ahead and having the commercial produced, it would be best to call the local television station and ask what their going rate is to advertise your driving school.

Radio

It all depends on your municipality and the size of the market you wish to reach to advertise your driving school. If your goal is to only solicit your local area, the cost will be greatly reduced.

Internet

This medium is the fastest growing industry in the history of mankind. Surprisingly, many forms of promoting your business are not as costly as you would think. All of the methods mentioned below are not described in detail simply because this is an article, not a book!

• Priority Listings – There are umpteen websites on the internet that will give your business a priority listing for a fee. Be sure that the site you choose has relevant users to your industry, otherwise you may be paying for a priority listing on a site that does not have the clientele you are looking for.

• Website Development – A quality website that can be navigated easily is a great advertising tool. The key to marketing with a website is to make sure that the site can be found. This can be done through SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategies, PPC (Pay per click) advertising, and directory submissions.

• Social Networking – Sites such as Facebook and twitter are used for more than just socializing. Many successful companies have used these tools to generate quite large followings of potential prospects using these methods.

• Free Classifieds – This form of marketing is quick and effective. Make sure to find a classified site that is relevant in your municipality. A well written ad can generate a lot of inquiries for your business.

You have spent all your time and efforts to prepare the college application. You have sent out the college application form attached with all the requirement documents. You are confidence that your selected college will accept your application because you have met all the admission criteria. But, sometimes thing does not happen as what we expected. When you receive the letter from the college, you thought it should be the acceptance letter, but unfortunately the letter informs you that you have not been accepted. So, what are you supposed to do now? How are you going to face the college rejection?

When you apply the college, you have set your mind and your heart to make commitment to this school, but now you have been rejected by it. At the moment you received this bad news, your spirits must be broken and have no clue on how to proceed in your next step. But, don’t let this panic moment drag for too long because college rejection does not means the end of the world, there is something that you can do to turn around the situation.

You should not give up and accept the college rejection. If this is the college you are planning to spend your college life with, then don’t give the 2nd chance of being accepted by making an appeal to the college decision. You need to tell the college in your appeal letter why they should accept you. Therefore, before you make the appeal, try to think back what are the mistakes you have made during the application preparation, there must be an oversight of some kind that result in the rejection. Or, there are extraneous circumstances surrounding your application that need extra clarification. List down the key points that you think the college should re-consider your application; then write a well written appeal letter to college’s admission department. You may need to make a few appeals and the college may keep rejecting you, try a few time before you give up.

When you apply for college admission, you should always apply for multiple colleges, so that you still have options if the appeals process to your favorite college doesn’t work. You can always accept the offer from the other college and then transfer to your favorite college after two years. Or, you have choose to study general education at a community college that located near your home while build up your college credit and polish your transfer to apply for any transfer to you top choice college later.

Summary

College rejection isn’t fatal and can happen to any application. You should react positively and try your best to rebound from rejection to end up exactly where you want to be.

To decide what kind of college may best meet your needs and requirements there are lots of things to think about. Listed are some factors that you will have to think in determining where you would like to go to the college.

Organization- College or University, Private or Public, or Church sponsored. Colleges are either public or private. Public colleges are one that is supported by state where they are situated. Many extremely ranked colleges in United States are the state-supported organizations. These colleges often provide excellent education at the price for in-state resident, which is lesser than similar private colleges. At early steps of your study, I would hearten you to think both private & public colleges.

Whereas private colleges often cost little more than the comparable state organizations, they often have monetary means to give generous need based or the scholarship based financial help. This help will make cost of the private college same or else less than attending the state college.

More choosy private universities & colleges have got religious association. The amount of spiritual control varies. But at beginning of the college search, we encourage you to examine all the private colleges, irrespective of the religious affiliation.

Educational- what courses & majors you are looking for?

Most important cause for going to the college is getting education. The kind of academic atmosphere & range of courses studied is significant factor to consider when choosing the college. Be cautious, however, of selecting the college based exclusively on it having particular major or else field of study. Investigation shows that about 90% of college graduates don’t major in field of study that they initially had intended. This occurs for some reasons.

First, majority of the colleges have got majors in the subjects that you have never studied before like political science and anthropology. Next, as you get experience & maturity in the college, then your interests might change. Take some time to discover your choices and be sensible about your gifts. Make sure to follow a route of study, which is a genuine attention to you, not only one you imagine might lead to good career.

If you are having strong interest in particular area, like science, then it is vital to evaluate college’s services & offerings in those particular areas to ensure they have sufficient resources. Keep in mind that lots of smaller colleges might not present majors in some professional fields, like business, engineering, and physical therapy. And if you are some of specific field of the study, make sure that colleges & universities you think offer major.

Do not exclude smaller college, but just because you think, sources might be inadequate. Keep in mind that all the resources of college are obtainable to the undergraduate students while at the large university; lots of specialized equipment may be reserved for the graduate students only. A few of biggest producers of the PhD’s in the country are some small colleges.

All colleges are created different. Make sure you do your research because if a college is cheap, it may be cheap for a reason. Going to school is one of the most important stepping stones in your life. Make sure you do your work.

The technology industry flourishes on the key contributions of Arab American professionals. In his speech at Cairo University, U.S. President Obama announced a powerful vision: to promote the advancement of entrepreneurship and innovation throughout the developing world. The TechWadi Global Entrepreneurship Forum is being held on June 23 for the first time in Lebanon at the Olayan School of Business (OSB) at the American University of Beirut, supported by partner Berytech Technological Pole. TechWadi is the leading networking association for Arab and Arab-American professionals in the technology industry.

So, you’ve been thinking about advancing your education so that you can gain that extra earning power that college graduates enjoy. It is well known that college graduates have a lower risk of unemployment, enjoy better job quality, are more likely to be in high-level positions and have much greater promotion prospects because of their advanced level of education. Perhaps you already have your bachelors and want to get your masters so that you are ready for greater opportunities that come your way. No matter what degree level you want to pursue, you can do it all from the comfort of your home through online degree programs offered by online colleges.

If you are considering studying for an online college degree, then you are not alone. Online colleges and universities are becoming very popular as more and more people are realizing the benefits of online learning. Pursuing a college degree online is an advantageous way to study as you can learn at your own pace and on your own time. But even with all the advantages of pursing an online college degree, is an online college right for you?

Pursuing an online college degree is not for everyone. You need to have the right characteristics to study for an online college degree. Some of the characteristics needed when pursuing an online college degree are:

Self-motivation & Self-discipline

Ability to prioritize

Ability to set your own goals

Good reading comprehension

Self-Motivation & Self-Discipline

You need to be highly self-motivated and self-disciplined and thus, be able to work without supervision. Since you don’t have a set class times at online colleges, it will be up to you to set your own studying times. It will help if you plan out your day and carve the same specific time each day to study. Self-discipline is required so you resist the urge of other distractions in your home such as doing the laundry, washing the dishes or watching TV. Self-discipline will also help you stick to your deadlines.

Ability to Prioritize

If you are choosing to pursue an online college degree, then it is probably because you have many other commitments to juggle such as work and family. Once you have made the commitment to attend an online college, then you must keep in mind that your education is just as an important of a commitment. With that mentioned, you should possess the ability to prioritize your schedule.

Just because online college degree programs are flexible, this does not mean the courses are easy, nor does it mean you can procrastinate class assignments and projects. With the many other commitments you have, it is important to prioritize your schedule, set deadlines, and as mentioned above, stick to the deadlines you set.

Ability to Set Your Own Goals

As with getting a degree through a traditional campus college, it is easy to fall off track without clear goals. Thus it is important to set both short-term and long-term goals when you pursue an online college degree. Some online colleges allow you to get a degree at your own pace and your pace will determine whether you get your online college degree in two years or ten years. When you pursue an online college degree you should set reasonable short-term goals such as taking 6-8 units (or as much as you can take) per quarter or semester. These short-term goals will help you reach your long-term goal with ease and will show the progress you are making towards achieving your long-term goal.

Good Reading Comprehension

A good level of reading comprehension is needed as online colleges teach primarily through written material written at college level. While you may have interaction with your classmates and/or instructor, the interaction will be done primarily through e-mail, chat rooms, and message boards.

If you find it difficult to attend college courses on campus, attending an online college is a great way to earn your degree. With online colleges and universities, you now have the opportunity to advance your education without having to push aside previous commitments. Just keep these characteristics in mind and you can be successful in advancing your education by earning your college degree online.

Sometimes it starts while you are waiting on station to begin your round. Possibly stepping into the box on the first or last field initiates it. For others, it may be constant during a tournament from start to finish.

Attending a Zone shoot one weekend, a State shoot the next—re-packing—then attending another distant tournament, I see many familiar faces. There’s something else that is very familiar at competitions, regardless of sport, location or skill level.

Body language, facial expressions and general commentary all reflect the fact that today is the day. Everyone has their game face on. This is serious. Every target counts and scores will be posted on the master score board later. For many of us, the atmosphere around us turns electric the split second our tires roll onto the tournament grounds. We are glad to be here or we wouldn’t have come. But the hard realization that our skills, patience and a host of emotions will soon be tested, often produces a well spring of palpable uneasiness.

There are multiple causes of this phenomenon, and the degree of affect it has on the individual varies from person to person. I thought we could look at some of the causes and maybe a few suggestions to manage these emotions more effectively.

First, I think it’s important we recognize that tournament conditions can have this affect on us. If we acknowledge it to ourselves, openly, this in itself begins to dismantle the tension we are building inside us. You are not alone with these feelings and thoughts. More importantly, the affects of tournament pressure do not have to be disabling.

“I’m glad no one else can hear my heart pounding when I step into the box.” Trust me, there are legions of people in sports who share the same experience. But, an increase in heart rate when you step into the tournament box is normal, not abnormal. Once you begin to believe this is normal, you’ve drastically reduced the disturbing affect it can have on you. Some competitors actually use these feelings to motivate themselves. They’re wisely turning a negative reaction into a positive one, using it to their advantage. Provided the mind isn’t going like a casino, the increase in adrenaline flow can be a real performance advantage…….

***
This Sporting Clays Article was previously published in Sporting Clays Magazine by Dan Schindler in July 2002.
