Students Making Difficult College Choices

Most students have come to expect an annual rise in tuition. The cost of a college education can increase from 3.5 percent to 6.0 percent. Increasing cost of energy and the struggle to compete with colleges that have large endowments is putting colleges out of reach for certain students. Colleges are obligated to increase their level of security. Parents expect a safe environment for students who are in urban and rural communities. Many colleges are offering a wide range of transportation options for students. Some colleges are establishing contracts with transportation companies who will manage on-campus buses and schedules. Students can feel safe traveling from the main campus to local residents in their community.

The changing economy is putting new demands on college budgets. Students are applying to five colleges to increase their chances of getting admitted and to identify the least expensive college. Colleges are facing challenges in terms of reaching their enrollment goals because students are not making a firm decision right away. Students need to have options when they consider the cost of earning a four year degree. Students must consider the cost of travel to colleges that are far away. This can lead to an inability to travel home frequently.

Colleges are obligated to meet the requirements of the accrediting agencies that approve their curriculum. Some college presidents are increasing the number of professors and research activities to ensure that their college is reaccredited. Additional research can require millions of dollars in an institution’s resources. Students will not enroll in a college that is not accredited. Also, outstanding professors will not aspire to work in a college that is not highly regarded in various aspects of a colleges’ curriculum.

Colleges are offering online courses to students who need an alternative education choice. The students can benefit by eliminating the cost of traveling to the campus for a three hour course. Some students enjoy the online courses because they can meet people who are in locations around the world. The online courses are unique because they can be delivered at the time of the instruction and it can also be recorded for later student viewing. Colleges gain an advantage because they can offer online courses of professors who are on sabbatical. More online courses can be expected within the next five years. As these courses expand they can reach the international audiences of students, instructors and researchers. The possibilities for international exchanges of information are limitless.

College stability is essential to the competitive edge that the United States maintains in its workforce. We are faced with the possibility of closing colleges who cannot keep up with their enrollment goals. This is particularly worrisome for colleges that do not have large endowments. College administrators must come up with a new paradigm regarding how they will work. For example due to the recent oil crises several colleges created a four day work week. College employees worked ten hours each day and did not work on Friday. Difficult college budget challenges should inspire innovative approaches to educate future generations of leaders.

Tips for Successful College Term Papers

Just about every college student has stressed about a college term paper. Those college term papers are as much a part of college life as homecoming weekend, cheerleaders, fraternity parties and bad college food!

While students often worry about their college term papers, these assignments can and do become easier over time. There are some great tips for success that underclassmen often learn from the upperclassmen. Here are some tips for success that will work with any major and any type of assignment.

Follow the instructions from the professor. Some college students might wonder what would be wrong with putting great effort into writing a ten-page paper and using seven sources for this college term paper. Well, nothing would be wrong, except that particular professor had asked for a seven-page paper, which used a minimum of ten sources! Getting the directions wrong is a big way to have trouble with an assignment. Before you even get started, read them slowly and highlight each point.

Ask the professor questions about the assignment if you are unclear. Sometimes a professor doesn’t include every detail, especially if they have been teaching a course for a long time. They just assume college students know what they are talking about. Your question could help the entire class.

Start the assignment the moment it is assigned. Some students might groan at that one, thinking that only a total geek would do that. However, a savvy college student knows that when time is on your side there is a lot more you can do for a term paper. You’ll have better research, more time to write and especially the time to edit your college term paper. You won’t be like those stressed out college students up the night before, drinking pots of coffee typing away at their college term papers cursing their professors for yet another assignment. Your assignment will have been done, sitting in your backpack waiting to be turned in.

Give every college term paper a bit of a twist. Your college professor reads tons of term papers each semester. Think of how many term papers do you think an English professor reads about the relationship between Romeo and Juliet. Alternatively, a science professor getting a term paper about how Thomas Edison discovered electricity. Try giving your papers a bit of a twist on the subject and topic every time and surprise that professor a bit. You’ll do more interesting research and you’ll get a better grade. Do a paper on the parents of Romeo and Juliet or on the inventions of Thomas Edison that didn’t work (there were a lot of them). This shows you’ve been thinking about the topic and put some of your own creative thinking into the class as well. That’s an “A” paper all the way!

Use a variety of research sources. Some college students today turn only to the Internet, doing one big Internet search for the subject and selecting the top five links for the college term paper subject. This is a huge mistake when it comes to your research. Get creative when it comes to selecting research sources. Use books, journals, newspaper articles, magazines and the Internet. Try even using personal interviews with sources you feel are interesting on the topic.

Be sure to format your college term paper. Every school and each department has specific guidelines about how a paper must be formatted. Follow these instructions. Additionally, spell-check and grammar-check your paper after you have a final document. Don’t simply rely on your computer’s system to do this for you, use a hard copy dictionary. Think of asking a classmate to read your paper for spelling or grammar check and you can do the same for them.

When writing college term papers is hard, ask for help. Sometimes we all need a little extra help; there is nothing wrong with that. Every college has a tutoring center where students receive tutoring in many subjects. You can easily find a tutor that will work with you one-on-one to write stronger college term papers for your assignments. You may discover after several appointments with a tutor that you have much better college term paper skills.

The college term paper is a rite of passage in many ways: every college student must write them for most of their courses. Learning to improve your college term paper skills is beneficial and will help with your college career.

Miss Understood : Sporting Clays Article From the Paragon School of Sporting

I’ve just come home from the outstanding NC State shoot at Hunters Pointe where Chuck Frazier perpetrated on us some of his best, most well thought out target presentations. Standing in the box, I distinctly remember telling myself not to shoot that target right there. Did I remember to follow those instructions? Actually, to tell you the truth, well, I just forgot. It looked so good right there I couldn’t help myself. See, here’s what happened. After stomping the first bird, I moved the gun to intercept the second bird. And there it was, right on schedule. So I mosey up to it with my “never-fail” move and watched myself shoot right over the top of it! Chuck ambushed me. Twice! X0X0. It’s enough to make a person feel daffy. I did adjust the last 2 pairs, XXXX. Couldn’t get those lost birds back though.

And that’s what I want to take a look at, minimizing our misses.

In my opinion, sporting clays competition has become a precision sport. Never before have so many demands been placed on the competitor’s shoulders to guide the gun properly. Mistakes in the swing are rarely forgiven by today’s more creative and deceptive match presentations. While ours is not a game of perfect, scores are climbing. That’s why knowing where we missed and why is so critical. As scores continue to climb, there is less and less margin for missing, putting the emphasis squarely on better strategies and error free swing execution. Miss management.

Top shooters have good form. While their shooting styles may differ, the style each one uses is consistent, making it dependable, at the target and on the score sheet. But there’s more going on there than meets the eye.

Let’s start with a target presentation you like, a favorite of yours. Maybe it’s a left to right crossing target, medium speed at about 25 yards. This is a target that you rarely miss. Confidence on this bird is very high as you walk into the shooting box. Why? Because you know this shot. From the set up through the break you know every aspect of this shot cold. Swing feel and sight pictures are very familiar to you. I’m not inferring you can take the target for granted. I am saying you feel very secure, putting a lot of trust in your move on this bird. You know how to break it and it will break. So it’s safe to say you have this shot, any time, anywhere.

Now stand beside me at Hunters Pointe on Sunday at the state shoot, 15 yards to the left and under the 60 foot tower. Both traps are on the top. True pairs, the birds leave from behind us, on our right, overhead and away. The first thing we notice is the line on each bird is somewhat awkward, so putting the gun on the line will be touchy. To compound matters, the targets are fast, meaning time is limited and we’ll have to make good use of the time we have. The margin for swing errors is small indeed and swing mistakes, careless or otherwise, won’t be forgiven here. Like so many of Chuck’s well thought out presentations, precision will be at a premium……

The process of getting ready to send a son/daughter to college can present many confusing choices. This is especially true if you are sending your first child to college. There are over 3000 colleges to choose from. Each college has its own unique offering of courses and activities. In addition to all of the mailings that are sent to home there are hundreds of college websites that offer information. Starting your college search in the 9th or 10th grade gives your student an opportunity to tour different types of colleges.

Each high school student should talk to college students and faculty to get a better picture of the level of community on their campus. Some students and parents look at the name of a college to determine where they will pursue an undergraduate degree. A student can go after the big name but maybe the college does not really have the major that they want. Some colleges are located in an urban city while others are located in a suburban or rural city. Not only must you look at the size of the college you should also look at how far it is from home.

Many parents and students get consumed with discussions about the cost of college. The price of college can range from ,000 – ,000 for public or private college education. Colleges are trying to move into the 21st century in terms of technological resources for students who are enrolled. For example, maintaining a wireless internet campus requires staff.
